[I TRIED FOR YOU]: the Ladies Break Festival

On day 3 after the first Ladies Break Festival, I’m coming back to you to share my experience. Other QUEENS have agreed to participate by submitting their impressions of the first edition of the Ladies Break Festival to Martinique Airlocal.

Ladies Break Festival #mwentela

About Ladies Break…

Originally, Ladies Break is the iconic meeting place for women, a place for relaxation, release, shopping, and networking that started in 2017.

Ladies Break is the 100% female concept of Karline GUILLAUME, Director and Founder of the communication and event agency Kfée’In, but also the presenter of the Telles Qu’elles program broadcast on Martinique la Première. Her mission is to highlight the female potential as much as possible. By female potential, we mean:

  • the promotion of female entrepreneurship #mampreneurs #girlboss;
  • the liberation of women, their self-esteem, and their image, through dance #backitup, coaching, or sensual, naughty, and sexual accessories 🔞;
  • raising awareness on issues that directly affect women, namely breast cancer, endometriosis, verbal and physical violence against women; On May 8th, I participated in my first Ladies Break. Two years after a series of lockdowns, it was time for girls’ outings #girlsout. After receiving the same invitation from several friends, I thought I should discover this 100% female concept, with an entrance fee of €5.

Upon arriving, the girls were all #onfleek. Regardless of our morphology, style, or features, I had a very good impression. Venus was present, and we all radiated. In addition to the security guards and DJs, we were all among women. Exhibitors and ladies breakers, we all occupied the Appaloosa.

Although I wasn’t planning on spending anything, except for food, with this stifling heat, I couldn’t resist. A body jewel to awaken my sensuality, local oils for my body care, a financial contribution to a friend’s purchase as a gift… my credit card still heated up… but reasonably.

During the last activity, which consisted of giving gifts to the participants, the Ladies Break Festival was announced at a price of 39€ for the first places – Early Bird Seduction Pass. A Festival? But how? I won’t lie to you, and given some shortcomings in the organization of this Ladies Break, I wasn’t particularly excited to go. Being new to this world and not having enough perspective on the concept, I was skeptical. At that price, what would be the line up? I’m a bit like Doubting Thomas, sometimes I need to see to believe.

… at the Ladies Break Festival

In her press release dated May 10th, Karline explains: “When I create an event, I want to create happiness above all else. And we have never needed it so much! All the women around me are looking for this event that combines everything they need in one place. I want to offer them even more.”

Celebrating women and allowing them to take a real break away from everything, on a festival scale, is the mission of the Kfée’In team. As they explained in their press release, “We want to go further, explore the different facets of the Ladies Break concept. With the Ladies Break Festival, we offer an even livelier event.”

What are the announced advantages of the festival ?

  • 12 hours of programming: conferences, demonstrations, artistic shows, dances, activities, music, and a concert ;
  • 100-120 exhibitors on 1000m², combining shopping stands, awareness poles, and catering points;
  • 280m² of outdoor stage;
  • a Caribbean to international lineup revealed progressively.

The Ladies Break Festival from my point of view

As I mentioned earlier, I like to know what I’m getting into before making any payments. I’ve been disappointed so many times before at events that now I prefer to spend my money on good restaurants or vacations. However, the festival still piqued my curiosity. I followed the posts and became aware of the festival’s strength when I saw two names: Mapy 🎻 – an exceptional violinist whom I follow on Instagram – and Gyptian 💚💛🖤 – a Jamaican artist who needs no introduction.

I was observing and testing the waters until one day a friend told me, “Coco, X and I got your ticket. See you on July 3rd.” What can I say in the face of such kindness? #blessed. I had to accompany them, for sure.

The Concept

By dedicating an event to women, some – including women – see it as gender discrimination. I do not share this view, and I do not say this only because I am a woman. Allowing women to come together and have a 100% fun, entertaining, and colorful time, a female-oriented and taboo-free meeting where pleasure, entertainment, and awareness are at the heart of the day… this concept, described as such, does not shock me and attracts me in a certain way. Being able to enjoy and dress as one wishes without having to pay attention to the gaze of some unrestrained men is great and feels good 😊.

However, and unfortunately, the promises of a festival solely dedicated to women were not completely kept, as a few days before, it was stated in one of the posts “Festival open to everyone” 😏. Imagine for a moment the reaction of female festival-goers who bought their tickets because they thought they would be among women…

The Communication

The Kfée’In Agency excels in communication. The visuals are beautiful, the words well chosen, the network of influencers competent, the scenography is beautiful… at that level, nothing to say. I would like to point out that some feedback – following the last Ladies Break – was taken into account for this first edition of the Ladies Break Festival. Listening to constructive comments and using them to offer a better result on a larger scale, thank you for that. However, deleting constructive comments that deserved an equally constructive response is not great 😏.

The shopping area

Having gone to the Ladies Break, I didn’t necessarily have the desire to indulge myself. Furthermore, since every exit was final, it wasn’t practical to do both shopping, keep your purchases nearby, and enjoy yourself in peace. Nevertheless, I do recall there being beautiful stands with interesting products run by women. I didn’t take the time to take nice photos with my friends because of the queue, but there were no shortage of spots. Very beautiful photocalls invited us to strike a pose.

The stage area

From 5 pm to 10 pm, I had a blast 💃🏽😊. Once I was well settled, not far from my folding chair, which was allowed, I enjoyed the entertainment. Back it up sessions, performances by Anaïs B, Mapy, and then Fanny J – where I was overwhelmed with emotions over the song Dis-le moi #madeleine – Gyptian with his little sway and repetitive #Waouw – describing the Martinican and West Indian woman – other DJs’ performances during the intermissions… I won’t lie, I had more fun than in my previous nights out in the Péyi.

For a first edition, I think the enthusiasm of the Ladies Break was well present. Laughter, joy, emotions, artists, staging, security … everything was there to have an excellent time. So for all these reasons, thank you to Karline GUILLAUME and her team. Nothing is perfect and there will always be things to criticize. The important thing is to take into account constructive feedback in order to improve the customer experience for future editions.

And you, were you there? Did you have a great time ? Are you ready for the next edition on July 9, 2023 ?

Tell us everything in the comments. ⬇📱😉
