This race, which began in 2015, combines adventure, self-discovery, and female solidarity. The 8th edition of the Raid des Alizés started on December 5th with a bang! More than 70 all-female teams have arrived at Aimé Césaire Airport to participate in this event, which will take place until December 10th. In total, 225 women are participating in this year's raid.
Raid des Alizés: A Unifying Race
Sportswomen, students, military personnel, and even influencers, coming from Martinique (about a dozen), as well as from Switzerland, Belgium, and France, crossed the Atlantic specifically to participate in this multi-challenge race. For 5 days, they will compete in the wild nature of the Island of Flowers, following a course kept secret until the start of the event. Organized by the Martinique Tourism Committee and TV Sports Events, this annual competition offers a variety of challenges including mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, as well as orienteering, running-trail, and bivouacking. Over the years, this race has become a must-attend event, evolving into a benchmark in its genre for female athletes. The goal? To give their best. But not only that…
Raid des Alizés in Martinique: An Event Supporting Associations
More than just a sports event, the Raid des Alizés is also a charitable event! Each team represents an association, and some of the participants themselves are women with unique backgrounds and a connection to the causes their associations support.
This year, notable personalities are also joining the event, such as Muriel Hurtis, a world champion in athletics, Stéphanie Blaise, a former basketball player, Caroline Califano, a rugby player, and the multi-award-winning judo champion of Guyanese origin, Lucie Decosse. She has teamed up with her sisters, Gwladys and Jessica, to represent the Guyanese association "Kourir," which supports families with children and adolescents suffering from juvenile idiopathic arthritis and chronic rheumatic diseases. In addition to this association, others are engaged in fighting breast cancer, pediatric cancers, autism, and research for neurodegenerative diseases. The event receives coverage in the press and also generates financial support.
A Nature-Filled and Sporty Female Adventure in Martinique
The expected media coverage is extensive and will provide incredible visibility for Martinique. Whether it's its beaches, natural landscapes, or memorable locations, this rich destination will enjoy international exposure through the TV Sport Event channel. Furthermore, internationally recognized influencers and sportswomen will share the competition on their social media networks. Additionally, French fitness coach Lucile Woodward will accompany the teams and share her videos on her YouTube channel, followed by over 700,000 people. The Martinique Tourism Committee (CMT) also reports that 60% of the participants choose to stay in Martinique after the Raid des Alizés, along with their companions.
