Spotlight on the Olympics 🎥📸. Behind every athlete, there is a life, years of intense training repetition, medal-winning successes but also failures, a life struggle, a story. Mandy FRANÇOIS-ELIE took some of her free time to open up to us in all simplicity. On this World Olympic and Paralympic Day, we wanted to learn a little more about her personality and her strength of character. Do you know how many times she has been a champion? You will find out through this interview.
Mandy, an extraordinary model of resilience.
This petite woman collects titles and medals. Here are some of her achievements:
2012 • European Vice-Champion on 100m in Stadskanaal • Paralympic Champion on 100m in London 🥇
2013 • Awarded the Legion of Honour • Double World Champion on 100m and 200m in Lyon
2014 • European Champion on 100m and European Vice-Champion on 400m in Swansea
2015 • Vice-World Champion on 400m in Doha
2016 • Paralympic Vice-Champion on 200m in Rio de Janeiro 🥈
2017 • European Vice-Champion on 200m in London
2018 • European Champion on 100m and 200m and European Vice-Champion on 4x100m relay in Berlin
2019 • Vice-World Champion on 200m and bronze medalist on 100m in Dubaï
2021 • European Champion on 100m and 200m and bronze medalist in universal relay in Bydgoszcz • Paralympic bronze medalist on 200m in Tokyo 🥉
With such a track record, she must have a strong mental.
And you, dear internet users, what would you do if your life was turned upside down in a fraction of a second: give up everything or fight? 🤔 Mandy FRANÇOIS-ELIE chose the second option and that is to her credit.
Having read her book titled “From Olympism to Paralympic Sports“*, I can tell you that I was really struck by it. Social media doesn’t necessarily show it – and that’s actually the point, to only show the good sides of life – but life isn’t easy for everyone. You have to fight, give yourself, motivate yourself, get help and support, surround yourself with good people, and believe in order to achieve your goals.
Despite all the trials of the past and present, Mandy stands before us, with the will to win and a smile on her face. Moreover, if you have the chance to read her story, you will feel all the emotions she went through. I traveled through her narrative, I laughed, I cried, I worried, I got angry, and most importantly, I drew parallels with my own life as a teenager and young adult.
Life is a perpetual struggle. Give yourself, like Mandy, the means to succeed and above all, follow your heart and what drives you deep down inside. 💪🏽🙌🏽💗
