The Trade Winds Raid: A Unifying Race
Sportswomen, students, military personnel, and even influencers, hailing from Martinique (about a dozen) as well as from Switzerland, Belgium, and France, have crossed the Atlantic expressly to participate in this multi-challenge race. For 5 days, they will compete in the wild nature of the "Island of Flowers" on a course kept secret before the start of the event. Organized by the Martinique Tourism Committee and TV Sports Events, this annual competition features a variety of sports: mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, as well as orienteering, running-trail, and bivouacking. More than just a sporting event, the Raid des Alizés is also a solidarity-driven occasion! Each team represents an association, and the participants themselves, some of whom have unique backgrounds, have a connection with the associations they support.
Notable personalities are also joining the event this year, such as Muriel Hurtis, world athletics champion, Stéphanie Blaise, former basketball player, Caroline Califano, rugby enthusiast, and the multi-award-winning judo champion of Guyanese origin, Lucie Decosse. She has joined forces with her sisters, Gwladys and Jessica, to represent the Guyanese association "Kourir," which supports families with children and adolescents suffering from juvenile idiopathic arthritis and chronic rheumatic diseases. In addition to this association, others are committed to fighting breast cancer, combating pediatric cancers, addressing autism, and supporting research for neurodegenerative diseases. The event receives attention in the press as well as financial support.
