The Route de la Trace in Martinique: A Heritage Worth Seeing

In Fort-de-France, at the beginning of the Route de la Trace, you will find the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Built in 1925 to honor the soldiers and civilians who died during World War I, it offers a magnificent view of the city of Fort-de-France.

A breathtaking nature and landscapes

The Balata Garden, initiated by the landscape architect Jean-Philippe Hoze, is one of the most popular places for tourists and locals. You will find there a multitude of plants, as well as hummingbirds. We also recommend the Alma River. Nicknamed the “White River” due to the large number of pebbles present, it is possible to swim there or to do canyoning.

The Gendarme’s Leap is a beautiful 10-meter high waterfall. You will enjoy dipping your feet in it. Finally, the Emerald Domain is a large park. Well maintained, the vegetation is abundant. Birds are also observable. Several courses are available: it’s up to you to choose the one that best suits your desires.

Charming villages to visit

Along the Trace road, some municipalities deserve to be visited. This is the case of Morne-Rouge, located at an altitude of 450 meters. If you wish to ascend the volcano of Montagne Pelée, this is the best starting point. Furthermore, Ajoupa-Bouillon is a beautiful town located on the side of Montagne Pelée. You will be captivated by its multiple landscapes, including waterfalls and biological pools.
