HISTORY OF LE MORNE VERT MARTINIQUE
Le Morne-Vert Martinique is a former hamlet of Le Carbet.
In 1846, Father Goux requested the creation of the parish of Le Morne-Vert.
Established in 1865, it welcomed its first priest in 1572, and a cemetery was built there in 1874.
In 1884, the parish had a population of 1,800 inhabitants, and from 1885, it housed two primary schools.
Gradually, it developed and separated from Le Carbet.
In 1895, it obtained its own civil status registers.
42 years later, a request for autonomy was sent to the Colonial Administration.
10 years after that, Le Morne-Vert was established as a municipality, and new borders were assigned to it.
In 1949, Luce Lemaistre became the first female mayor of the municipality and also of Martinique.
Finally, the canton of Le Morne-Vert was integrated into that of Le Carbet in 1985.
Its name was simply attributed due to its geographical location: the municipality is situated on a relatively wooded hill where nature is lush.
