Cascade Ravine Baron Martinique: A Wilderness Gem
Many tourist attractions on the island of flowers are accessible only after a car journey. The waterfall of Ravine Baron is no exception. However, you can reach it quickly, in just 5 minutes from the Trace road, a national road that traverses the northern part of Martinique.
To get there, it's advisable to park at the former Absalon thermal station. Then walk up the road to a rather imposing stone bridge.
There lies the access path to the waterfall, discreetly hidden. You'll take rather steep stairs (be cautious of slipping) that lead you to this tourist site. The flora and fauna have reclaimed their space, offering a wild panorama. The waterfall is nestled amidst lush tropical vegetation, providing a beautiful landscape. It's an ideal place to relax with family or friends, perhaps for a picnic. However, swimming is prohibited.
Those interested can continue their journey to the Boucle d’Absalon for a beautiful hike.
The Boucle d’Absalon Hike
Close to the Ravine Baron waterfall and starting from the thermal station, you have access to the Absalon hiking trail. The loop is 4 km, taking about 2 to 3 hours to complete. This excursion through the heart of the tropical forest offers a splendid view of Fort-de-France from the summit.
Make sure to wear sturdy shoes as the trail can be challenging in some sections, with significant changes in elevation. Check the weather before heading out; heavy rain can make the paths muddy and slippery.
