Designed by landscaper Jean-Philippe Thoze, this garden is a tribute to tropical biodiversity. It houses a surprising variety of plant species, ranging from exotic flowers and orchids to bromeliads and tree ferns. The highlight of the visit is undoubtedly the suspended walkway that winds through the treetops, offering an incomparable panoramic view of the garden and, in the distance, the Caribbean Sea.
2. La Savane des Esclaves
This place is not just a garden but also a memorial space. It is the result of the hard work of "Ti Gilbè," the founder and guide of the site. Located in the southern part of the island, in the municipality of Les Trois-Îlets, Savane des Esclaves offers a historical glimpse into life in Martinique during the period of slavery. What truly captures one's attention is its traditional Creole garden, arranged using ancestral methods. It showcases many medicinal plants, rare fruits and vegetables, as well as lesser-known or forgotten species by the local inhabitants. The blend of all these plants, vegetables, and flowers coexists in natural harmony.
3. Le Domaine d'Émeraude
For nature lovers wishing to immerse themselves in the rainforest, Domaine d'Émeraude is ideal. Located at the foot of Mount Pelée, this park offers hiking trails through lush, humid forest. Informative signs line the trails, providing a wealth of information about the local ecosystem.
4. La Presqu'île de la Caravelle
This is one of the most impressive natural parks in Martinique. La Presqu'île de la Caravelle is a nature reserve offering a diversity of landscapes, from mangroves to dry forests. It's the perfect place for hikers, whether they are beginners or experienced. From here, you can admire majestic panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
5. Le Jardin de l'Habitation Clément
For history, botany, and flower enthusiasts, Habitation Clément, a former rum distillery, has an exceptional garden. Here, botany and heritage come together. The paths are lined with royal palm trees, and you can admire lily ponds as well as a fascinating collection of contemporary art sculptures.
The gardens and parks of Martinique are not just tourist attractions; they are biodiversity sanctuaries, mirrors of history, and showcases of culture. They offer a refreshing break away from the hustle and bustle of beaches and cities, immersing you in a more authentic and intimate Martinique.
