Before being a distillery, La Mauny was a sugar estate. Founded in 1749 by Count Ferdinand Poulain, the estate then devoted all its energy to the extraction of this highly prized commodity. The colonists take advantage of slave labor to exploit these properties and get rich. When freedom is finally granted to these workers, the cost of sugar production becomes less profitable and forces the plantations to close or transform. Mauny then becomes a rum distillery. A new era begins.
