The history of the town of Le Robert.

The Parish of Le Robert was established in 1694.

Previously, it was known as Cul-de-Sac Robert, named after the shape of its bay, and it was part of the parish of its neighbor La Trinité in Martinique.

Access to Le Robert was rather complicated as it could only be reached by sea.

In 1694, Father Labat, with the support of the then Governor-General, Count de Blénac, decided to establish this area as a separate parish.

At that time, some Caribs still lived on the lands of the future commune, as later recounted by Father Labat in his writings.

Finally, between 1790 and 1810, several major events took place on the territory of Le Robert, such as Rochambeau's victory over the royalist army at Vert-pré (a district of Le Robert) in 1793, and the landing of the English led by Admiral Cockrane, which resulted in the English occupation of the island in 1809.

IN SUMMARY

Bothered for a few years due to the sargassum seaweed and the odor they emit, the town of Le Robert has also had to face the health crisis related to COVID-19 in France.

Nevertheless, the municipality is not giving up and is determined to do everything in its power to overcome this situation that tarnishes its image.

While it may be the capital for some and just a passing town for others, Le Robert remains a necessary crossroads for traveling from the north to the south of the island.

The municipality understands this well; its location on the map is its strong point.

With the upcoming arrival of the TCSP (Bus Rapid Transit System), the challenges for Le Robert will not be insignificant as it aims to shine once again.
