History of the municipality of LE GROS MORNE
Like many municipalities in Martinique, Gros-Morne was inhabited by the Caribs before the arrival of the French.
Following a four-year war with the French colonists, the Caribbeans who managed to survive fled to the northern islands such as Dominica for refuge.
Later, the region began to develop around agriculture.
In addition, it is worth remembering that the commune was originally a district of Trinité 97220 from the arrival of the settlers around 1635, before becoming a parish in 1743.
In 1837, Gros-Morne was established as a commune.
