All beaches, particularly those on the Atlantic coast, are likely to be rocked by beautiful sets of waves. Depending on the weather conditions and whether you have a board or not, there is hydrotherapy for everyone! Massages, bubbling baths, kneading, jet showers with their toning and relaxing effects will bring softness and elasticity to your skin. Beware !
Black sand beaches
The island was created from the ocean by successive eruptions. The black sand beaches, Mount Pelé, the hills sloping downwards, the reliefs of former volcanoes, testify to the past of this volcano. It is in the north of the Caribbean coast that they reach their peak.
What beaches in Martinique do not have sargassum ?
Sargassum is a brown seaweed. It drifts slowly with the currents and then encroaches on the sea surface and the beach. Sargassum impedes access to ports, preventing boats from passing, and cleans the beaches.
If it is rejected by the sea and sprinkled with water, it emits an unpleasant smell of rotten eggs, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide.
The east coast of Martinique is the most affected by sargassum, as it is mainly due to the marine currents that cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Fortunately, these seaweeds are not present all year round. They are more widespread from April to July. If the beach is contaminated by Sargassum, municipalities react quickly and clean the beach.
There are many beaches that do not present Sargassum, especially along the Caribbean coast of Martinique such as Les Salines, Anse Figuier, Pointe Marin, etc… The beaches of the south of the island are less affected by the invasion of seaweeds. This is also the case of beaches located in the north such as Anse Etang.
